Come see what Grails can do to kick start your development efforts.

The JUG meeting offers a great place to network with other developers, recruiters and businesses as well as to learn new technologies. The location is the same as usual, and as always we have refreshments available – thanks to our sponsor ettaingroup! If you plan to attend please use our Invitation.

Presentation Outline

Past meetings have covered both Spring and Hibernate. This month we’ll look at a framework that builds on both of these technologies and provides even more power behind an elegant simplicity. Grails is an open-source project primarily focused on the web-based app dev space. It favors convention over configuration along the same lines as RoR but with all the power of Java and seamless integration with Java’s massive collection of libraries. Additionally, by using Groovy (a Java byte-code compatible scripting language) as a first-class coding option, Grails opens Java developers to a world of expressive, dynamically typed capabilities.

After a quick overview of the Grails architecture, this presentation will primarily be a coding demonstration. We will create a fully-featured, database-enabled application. This application will highlight AJAX features, an abstract database layer, security capabilities and full-text search. Come see what Grails can do to kick start your development efforts.
